GROWN BY MONKS
Jocotes (pronounced hoe-ko-tes) are a unique mouth-watering fruit of the Cashew Family, native to tropical America.
The name Jocote derives from the Aztec word "xoxotl", and carries many beneficial properties.
We have been blessed by the most magnificent trees here in this village in the highlands of Lake Atitlán. The village is known as, guess what:
"the land of jocotes"
- LA TIERRA DE JOCOTES -
I know, we are probably the only ones selling jocote jam around.
And you probably have never even heard of jocote before.
A fruit from the cashew family, exotic, ancient, rare, of unique properties...
THINK ABOUT IT.
It might be your one and only chance of tasting a fruit
from an organic farm,
grown in a monastery,
on a high-altitude Mayan lake,
all cared for with love
by monks and super cool local workers.
The one & only chance in your life.
There, i said it.
This jam is truly a high roller,
it's prestige warranting a
"customer 100% HAPPY & SATISFIED" seal.
IT IS INDEED an exotic delicacy.
It carries charisma, uniqueness and stunning looks.
We make our jams from the Corona, a royal variety of attractive deep red color.
They have a massive pit covered by only a few millimetres of wondrous delicious flesh, and when walking through the market, their red shiny skin makes it almost impossible to pass by without buying a few (dozen) pounds.
After the purchase, before even leaving the stand, you'll find you've already eaten a handful, and your arms and sleeves will be yes, all sticky, but no, you won't mind. In fact -- you'll be delighted.
WE MAKE: Jocote Jam, Jocote Cider Vinegar and Jocote Wine.

LOCALS OFTEN EAT JOCOTES WHILE THEY ARE STILL GREEN, WITH SALT AND SPICES, A TASTE THAT FOR MOST WESTERN TASTEBUDS CAN BE... ehm VERY PARTICULAR.
Our trees are exclusively cared for with organic methods.
Trimming the branches when the moon is right, following methods of permaculture and other alternative agricultural techniques.
You must know that jocote trees
are widely admired.
Photographers from around the whole globe come to portray their beauty; buddhas sit under their tree trunks;
poets and writers come amongst it's leaves to get inspired; holy men cross the ocean to revere their curves;
you get it,
THEY'RE REALLY NICE.
